The creator of the new FX and Hulu series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette is defending the show amid backlash from the Kennedy family.
The show has faced criticism for not consulting the famous family, with JFK Jr.‘s nephew Jack Schlossberg calling out the series for “profiting off” his uncle in a “grotesque way.”
The show was created and showrun by Connor Hines and executive produced by Ryan Murphy.
While attending the NYC premiere last week, Connor explained why he didn’t consult the family.

“As a writer, it’s more healthy and effective to have some distance from the subject matter,” he told Variety. “It allows you to be a lot more objective in how you approach the material, versus when you’re talking to people personally, you feel a sense of responsibility of relaying exactly what they’re telling you because they’ve given you their time.”
“It’s an incredibly large family as well. So if you were to talk about consulting them, where would you even begin?” he added.
