Lucy Spraggan has always worn her heart on her sleeveโever since her 2012ย X Factorย audition went viral with the poignant โLast Night (Beer Fear)โ. But withย โOther Sides of the Moonโ, her eighth studio album, the British singer-songwriter strips everything backโnot just the arrangements, but the emotional walls, too.
The 15-track collection is a sweeping reimagining of fan favourites, retooled and reorchestrated with cinematic strings, acoustic intimacy, and the kind of hard-won vulnerability that only comes from healing. Spraggan, now in her early 30s and several years sober, uses this record as both retrospective and reintroduction.
To be clear though, this is not a greatest hits album; itโs a reckoning.
Opening with a reworked โUnsinkableโ, the record sets its emotional coordinates early. Piano swells and delicate orchestration elevate the song from indie-pop anthem to something more introspectiveโlike Florence Welch after a storm. Tracks like โLucky Starsโ and โButterfliesโ now flutter with richer instrumentation and slower tempos, giving the lyrics space to breatheโand break your heart.
Butย โOther Sidesโฆโย isnโt just about polishing old gems. The two original songs, โHeavenโ and โThe Lessonโ, are the recordโs rawest moments. The former is a haunting piano ballad meditating on grief, while the latterโdetailing Spraggan walking down the aisle on her wedding day, missing her late fatherโis delivered with such stillness it feels like time itself holds its breath.
Then thereโs โSoberโ, reimagined as a duet with none other than Robbie Williams. Their voicesโweathered but warmโintertwine like old friends sharing scars. Itโs an unexpected pairing, and one of the albumโs high points. Williams, who has his own well-documented battles with addiction, brings weight and tenderness to the song, turning it into a communal hymn of survival.
Throughout, Spragganโs voice is front and center: textured, honest, and unafraid of the silences between the notes. Sheโs not trying to reclaim past glories here. Sheโs reframing themโon her terms.
The production, courtesy of close collaborators, leans into Americana and chamber pop influences, with occasional hints of the unique indie-pop stylings synonymous with some of Lucyโs biggest hits appearing throughout.
Lucy Spraggan โHeavenโ (Official Lyric Video)
A record that doesnโt just revisit the past, but rewrites it with clarity, compassion, and an undeniable sense of grace, โOther Sides of the Moonโย is without question Lucy Spragganโs most mature, and self-assured work to date.
Beautifully balancing reinvention with authenticity, its strengths lie in the singers courageous vulnerability, her vivid storytelling, and the albumโs lush yet controlled production. The new tracks deepen the emotional palette, while the reimagined classics feel fresh and intentional.
Whether youโre a longtime fan or new to her music, this record is a heartfelt journey worth takingโone that captures Lucy Spragganโs growth as an artist and a storyteller in full bloom.
